چکیده

BACKGROUND: Oocysts of Cryptosporidium species are frequently found in surface water. Approved detection methods, such as EPA method 1623, do not discriminate between infectious and dead oocysts. Culture of C. parvum and C. hominis, the two Cryptosporidium species responsible for most human infections, has been shown to be a good alternative to animal models for detecting infective oocysts. The limited ability of Cryptosporidium to grow in culture limits the sensitivity of this assay.

More productive in vitro culture of Cryptosporidium parvum for better study of the intra- and extracellular phases.

The great difficulties in treating people and animals suffering from cryptosporidiosis have prompted the development of in vitro experimental models. Due to the models of in vitro culture, new extracellular stages of Cryptosporidium have been demonstrated. The development of these extracellular phases depends on the technique of in vitro culture and on the species and genotype of Cryptosporidiu...

Inhibition of Calcium-Dependent Protein Kinase 1 (CDPK1) In Vitro by Pyrazolopyrimidine Derivatives Does Not Correlate with Sensitivity of Cryptosporidium parvum Growth in Cell Culture.

Cryptosporidiosis is a serious diarrheal disease in immunocompromised patients and malnourished children, and treatment is complicated by a lack of adequate drugs. Recent studies suggest that the natural occurrence of a small gatekeeper residue in serine threonine calcium-dependent protein kinase 1 (CDPK1) of Cryptosporidium parvum might be exploited to target this enzyme and block parasite gro...

Targeted gene knockdown validates the essential role of lactate dehydrogenase in Cryptosporidium parvum

Cryptosporidium parvum is a zoonotic protozoan that can cause a life-threatening gastrointestinal syndrome in children and in immunocompromised adults. Currently, the only approved drug for treatment of Cryptosporidium infections in humans is nitazoxanide, but it is not effective in immunocompromised individuals or in children with malnutrition. This is compounded by the lack of genetic methods...

Antibodies fused to innate immune molecules reduce initiation of Cryptosporidium parvum infection in mice.

At present no completely effective treatments are available for Cryptosporidium parvum infections in humans and livestock. Based on previous data showing the neutralizing potential of a panel of monoclonal antibodies developed against C. parvum, and based on the fact that innate immune peptides and enzymes have anticryptosporidial activity, we engineered several of these antibodies into antibod...

Cultivation of Cryptosporidium in host free cells culture using Iraqi isolate

Cryptosporidiosis is a clinical disease, usually presenting as a gastro-enteritis-like syndrome, caused by infection with protozoan parasites of the Apicomplexan genus Cryptosporidium. Disease ranges in seriousness from mild to severe and signs and symptoms depend on the site of infection and nutritional and immune status of the host Cryptosporidium in vitro was first achieved in endodermal cel...
